Projects  Showreel

One of the most important aspects when choosing a builder is selecting someone who can guarantee a high-end, quality build. After all, your home is one of the biggest investments you’ll ever make.

Every construction project involves a huge number of moving parts – from sourcing the best materials, to communicating with clients and architects and ensuring all work is carried out with meticulous attention to detail.

In order to keep on top of all aspects of the project, your builder requires high levels of organisation and a tried-and-tested set of procedures to carry out during every project.

Here, we reveal the top five things your builder should be doing to manage quality control during the build of your high-end home

1. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR ARCHITECT

You’ve worked closely with your architect to finalise the plans for your home – now it’s up to your builder to turn that vision into a reality. In order to make that happen, your builder must communicate with your architect to identify and resolve any practical issues and ensure the design is viable.

Many builders will have existing relationships with specific architects, so it can be useful to source both a builder and an architect at the same time. The more your builder and architect communicate, the more likely it is your project will run smoothly.

2. REGULAR ON-SITE VISITS

With so many people working on different parts of the project, it’s important for someone to take charge of leading regular site visits. Ideally, these should involve the project manager, supervisor and architect, so each can ensure work is being delivered to the correct standards.

Don’t be afraid to ask your builder about accompanying them on a site visit if you’d like to check in on the build firsthand. It’s also worth making sure your builder offers an online client portal, which you can check progress through regularly – we use Buildertrend.

3. PROCEDURES AND PROCESSES

Even during the earliest conversations with your builder, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the processes they have put in place to ensure quality control.

From safety checks to audits and testing, your builder should be able to provide a clear plan for completing your build to the highest standards.

4. TRANSPARENCY AND COMMUNICATION

Transparency and trust are key to a successful client-builder relationship and one of the most important pillars of quality control. From the very beginning, a builder should be communicating their targets to both the client and architect, with a clear plan as to how these will be achieved, better yet, provide the client with a running job schedule through Buildertrend (or similar).

Equally, any potential issues or hold-ups should be communicated as soon as possible, so they can be dealt with effectively.

5. INVEST IN THE BEST STAFF

A construction company is only as good as the people working for it. That’s why it’s absolutely crucial for your builder to have a team they know and trust. The more experienced and passionate the team, the more likely it is that you’ll achieve a high-end outcome.

WHERE WE BUILD AND WHAT WE BUILD?

TCON has its office in Surrey Hills and the main suburbs we build are Canterbury, Camberwell, Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Balwyn, Kew, Deepdene and Glen Iris which are all located in Boroondara. Our architectural work provides further large-scale projects in suburbs like Brighton and Toorak. Our team is large and established and we specialise in Heritage renovations and extensions, which many are typically incorporating Basements. We have an incredibly talented team who enjoy the large-scale work and when we build basements, we build them quickly and keep them water tight (also called a “dry basement”). If this sounds similar to what you’re looking to build, then contact TCON today.
